Pepperl+Fuchs SIL Rated Intrinsic Safety Isolated Barriers Used on E.ON Gas Storage Project
E.ON gas storage facility in Holford, Cheshire
An E.ON gas storage facility in Cheshire, UK which is designed to hold over 160 million cubic metres of gas, will use Pepperl+Fuchs range of SIL rated intrinsic safety isolated barriers to interface between the Safety Instrumented System and a large number of field devices installed on the Holford Gas Storage project.
The facility will store gas in eight salt caverns deep underground and then export the contents into the UK transmission system when required. Plant safety is critical, with the Pepperl+Fuchs H-System Termination Board mount isolated barriers being chosen for their IEC61508 SIL 2/3 rating, low power dissipation, and compact 12.5 mm width which can reduce cabinet space requirements by as much as 33%.
